Have you ever thought about what does your job mean to you? Does it only provide you money or do you serve a more meaningful purpose? Which one is more important for you?

Well, searching for meaning in jobs has been an increasing trend.

Meaning is the new money, an HBR article argued in 2011.

People are willing to earn less money for meaningful work. Of course, it can be wrong to take it and generalize for all of the countries, especially for the ones that have living difficulties. On the other side, the research conducting in 2018, showed that more than 9 out of 10 employees are willing to trade a percentage of their lifetime earnings for greater meaning at work. So, the 21st-century list of essentials can be updated as: “food, clothing, shelter and meaningful work.”

Have you ever met with a dentist who said his job is not to take care of the people?

Well, I know it sounds weird! But let’s check what Brazilian Dentist Felipe Rossi said exactly:

I am not doing dentistry to take care of teeth but to take care of people.

I have to admit that it is quite impressive what Brazilian Dentist Felipe Rossi said. And you may have a question : How can he do that?

He travels to impoverished communities in Brazil and East Africa for providing them free dental care. He has helped more than 12,000 people over three years. He has been ‘before and after pictures’ of his patients after fixing their teeth. Through his work, Rossi shows how small touches to human life have a big impact.

He also reaches a wide audience through his non-profit, Por1sorriso. Through this organization, Rossi has provided free dental care in countries outside of Brazil such as Mozambique and Kenya. With 4,000 volunteers and 1,500 procedures performed, Rossi keeps helping the people who live in countries that have limited access to medicine and proper dental care.

Finding a way to turn your job into a meaningful purpose in your life is that easy. All you need to do is try to be find a real ‘meaningful purpose’.
